Michael A. Pearson Scholarship
Dr. Michael A. Pearson was a faculty member in Sociology
for 25 years before his death in 2002. In his honor,
his family and friends have instituted an annual scholarship
award for students in Sociology or Anthropology who
share his interests and goals in improving race relations,
expanding social justice, and establishing a more peaceful
world. The aware is $500 to be applied to tuition at
UNC Charlotte.
Rising juniors, seniors, and graduate students in sociology
or anthropology at UNC Charlotte are eligible for the
award. It is given in the spring to an outstanding student
who has demonstrated interest in areas of race relations
and/or peace and justice studies. Interested students
will be asked to submit the following materials:
- A letter or essay, up to 500 words, outlining relevant
interests, accomplishments, and goals.
- A scholarly writing sample (for example, a paper
from a previous course, a chapter from the thesis,
and article for submission, etc.).
- A transcript (an unofficial transcript from the
web is acceptable).
- One letter of reference.
Interested students should watch for announcements
in the department in January of each year, or consult
with your advisor. The prize will be awarded at the
departmental awards ceremony in April.
